November 19, 2010: Activity Heat Maps and Sold Items
The Undermine Journal's New Features: Activity Heat Maps and Sold Items
The Undermine, Kezan - November 19, 2010 - Goblins of Azeroth across many markets now have new tools to decipher the posting habits in the Auction House marketplace.
The Undermine Journal has received some much-needed updates to its seller pages. Total auctions for sale are now plotted in a timeline across the top, followed by a heat maps displaying posting activity for every hour in the week. Detailed examination will show you the number of auctions posted at that time.
The staff used this opportunity to debut its alpha testing version of sold item tracking. The Auction Houses of Azeroth do not report sales directly to observers, but by careful observation of the market, many sales can be inferred and reported. Another heat map is displayed on seller pages to assist goblins in measuring when their markets are most active. Furthermore, a list of the last 50 items thought to be sold is included further down the page.
Not limiting these changes to seller pages, the staff has also included posting and selling heat maps, along with previously sold auctions, on item pages. Such maps may assist in purchasing commodities or observing when items are in demand.
The Editor of The Undermine Journal, following true Goblin tradition, has released the sold item tracking before it could be tested fully. While the staff don't believe any issues will explode, customers are cautioned to read sold item information with little confidence, and to observe other parts of the market before making any transaction decisions.
The Undermine Journal is a Goblin-produced publication that reports Auction House news and data for 348 faction markets, 72% of all faction markets seen from the United States. Readers find it at theunderminejournal.com. The first issues were published in June, 2010.

I like the new features. After spending some time looking at various items and sellers, I've come across something strange:
Is this a case of data not being fully collected yet for Sat/Sun, or are there really no dusts sold on those days? Or something else? An error?
The heat map looks the same on Chromaggus Horde, with Sat/Sun/Mon completely empty, and Friday mostly empty.

I didn't start assembling sold data until a few days ago, so those days of the week will be blank til they roll around again.

Looking at the new Post Activity Heat Map & Sold Volume Heat Map, I struggle to find what time it is, and what day it is.
Specifically, I'd love to see a bar, denoting what time it is, on the Map.
Ex: if it is 2:18 am on Sunday, there would be a red bar between Sunday 2 & the Sunday 3 box.
Thank you for the excellent resource!

Great Job! I'm loving the heat maps! The sold listings are roughly accurate, and fairly helpful.
